Mineralogie & Entstehung

Lepidolite is a lithium mica with the formula K(Li,Al)₃(Si,Al)₄O₁₀(F,OH)₂. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and forms typical hexagonal, flaky crystals. Its color ranges from pink to violet to lavender, due to lithium and manganese. It occurs in pegmatites. Locations include Brazil, Madagascar, the USA, the Czech Republic, and Australia.

Pflege & Reinigung

Lepidolite has a Mohs hardness of only 2.5–3 and is very soft and sensitive. It flakes easily and should be handled with care. Clean only with a dry or slightly damp cloth. DO NOT immerse in water! No ultrasound, no acids. For recharging, moonlight or amethyst geode is suitable. Not suitable for gemstone water.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Lepidolite can be confused with amethyst or purple fluorite. However, its glittery, scaly luster is unique and easily recognizable. Sugilite also shows similar violet tones but is much harder and denser. In trade, lepidolite is reliably named.
