Mineralogie & Entstehung

Malachite is a copper-containing carbonate mineral with the characteristic banded pattern in various shades of green. It forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zone of copper deposits. Used as a gemstone and pigment (mountain green) since ancient times.

Pflege & Reinigung

Sensitive – Mohs hardness only 3.5, acid-sensitive and moisture-prone. DO NOT soak in water and absolutely do not use for gemstone water (copper-containing!). Clean with a dry, soft cloth. Charge on rock crystal or in moonlight.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Azurite-malachite is a natural combination with blue azurite components. Dyed agate can imitate similar banding but shows a different structure under magnification. High-quality malachite has sharp, contrasting banding – washed-out patterns indicate lower quality.
