Meaning

As a cubic stone of order, fluorite is said to help bring structure and clarity to life. It is not uncommon for wearers of fluorite to suddenly feel the urge to tidy up. It is also said to support thinking by breaking narrow-minded or petty behavior patterns. It is also considered a helpful companion in learning, as it is said to make it easier for the wearer to maintain order and can promote comprehension and quick thinking.

Alleged effect

Fluorite is said to help strengthen bones and teeth. It is also said to improve physical mobility, stiffness, and joint pain and arthritis.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Fluorite (calcium fluoride, CaF₂) crystallizes in a cubic form and comes in nearly all colors – from violet to green and blue to yellow. It shows perfect octahedral cleavage and often fluoresces under UV light (the term "fluorescence" actually derives from fluorite).

Pflege & Reinigung

Handle with care – Mohs hardness 4 and perfect cleavage make fluorite sensitive to impacts. Do not soak in water (it can break along cleavage lines). Clean dry with a soft cloth. Recharge in moonlight or on rock crystal. Protect from sunlight (color may fade).

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Violet fluorite is occasionally confused with amethyst – however, fluorite is significantly softer (hardness 4 vs. 7) and often shows multicolored zones in the same piece. Green fluorite can resemble emerald or aventurine, but can be easily distinguished by its lower hardness.
