Meaning

Kunzite is known to stimulate empathy, humility, and loving devotion. This isn't about self-betrayal, but rather a willingness to serve. It is said to make people more compliant and more sensitive to the needs of others. It is also said to have a mood-lifting effect in cases of depression. For those who struggle with criticism, this stone can be helpful by supporting them in accepting constructive criticism.

Alleged effect

Kunzite is said to have particularly positive effects on nerve problems. It is said to help with pinched nerves, sciatica, neuralgia, and epilepsy. Users also report that it can also be helpful for tension in the heart area and high blood pressure. It also promotes tolerance toward oneself and others.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Kunzite is a pink to violet variety of the mineral spodumene (LiAlSi₂O₆). The color is due to traces of manganese. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and often forms large, prismatic crystals with characteristic longitudinal striations. Kunzite shows strong pleochroism – depending on the viewing angle, it appears pink, violet, or colorless. Locations include Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, Pakistan, and the USA (California).

Pflege & Reinigung

Kunzite has a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7 but is sensitive to breakage due to its perfect cleavage. Important: Kunzite fades with prolonged exposure to sunlight! Store in the dark, recharge only in moonlight or on rock crystal. Clean with lukewarm water. No ultrasonic cleaning due to its cleavage.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Kunzite can be confused with rose quartz, pink tourmaline (rubellite), or morganite. Rose quartz is more opaque and less intensely colored. Rubellite is a stronger pink and harder. Morganite has a more peach-colored tone. The characteristic longitudinal striations and pleochroism are distinguishing features.
