Meaning of the name:The name "Larimar" is composed of two parts: "Lari" comes from the name "Larissa", the daughter of the explorer Miguel Méndez, and "mar" is the Spanish word for "sea".

Meaning

Larimar was discovered in the Dominican Republic and, with its turquoise and white hues, is reminiscent of the Caribbean Sea. It can be used to take control of one's life. It is said to dissolve victim mentalities and suffering. It thus provides inner peace and helps one face dramatic changes with composure.

Alleged effect

Larimar is said to stimulate the body's self-healing powers. It is said to be particularly effective at dissolving energy blockages, particularly in the chest and head areas. It is said to stimulate brain activity and thus encourage constructive, creative thinking. Its wearer is also said to become aware that the mind only has the limits it believes in.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Larimar is a blue variety of the mineral pectolite (NaCa₂Si₃O₈(OH)), a sodium-calcium silicate. The blue color arises from the substitution of calcium with copper. It forms in volcanic rocks (basalts) in cavities and fissures. The only location is Los Chupaderos in the Dominican Republic. Deep blue specimens without white inclusions are the most valuable.

Pflege & Reinigung

Larimar has a Mohs hardness of 4.5–5 and is relatively sensitive. Important: Larimar fades with strong sunlight! Store in the dark, recharge in moonlight or on rock crystal. Clean with lukewarm water. No acids, no ultrasound, no saltwater.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Larimar can be confused with turquoise, hemimorphite, or blue chalcedony. However, its characteristic white-blue patterns are unique. Since it only comes from the Dominican Republic, the origin is an important quality feature. Imitations made from dyed quartz or resin are occasionally found on the market.
