Mookaite (also Mookaite or Mook Jasper) is a radiolaritic jasper – it consists of the silicified skeletons of radiolarians (single-celled marine organisms). Chemically, it is SiO₂ with iron oxides and clay minerals that are responsible for the diverse colors. It forms in sedimentary deposits from the Cretaceous period. The only location is Kennedy Ranges, Western Australia.

Pflege & Reinigung

Mookaite has a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7 and is robust. Clean under running water, recharge in the sun or on rock crystal. It is color and light resistant as well as suitable for everyday use.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Mookaite is quite unique due to its typical color pattern (red-yellow-cream) and its Australian origin. It can be confused with colorful jasper or breccia jasper. Since it comes from only one region, its origin is a quality feature. Fakes are rare.
