Rainbow moonstone is said to enhance intuition and facilitate the spiritual connection between the physical and spiritual worlds. It is also considered a stone that can stimulate creativity and contribute to authentic, honest self-expression. It is also said to strengthen dream recall and support lucid dreaming, as well as promote restful sleep.

Alleged effect

In healing crystal science, rainbow moonstone is considered a lucky stone. It is said to improve sensitivity and body awareness, as well as support self-love. It is also said to balance the female hormonal cycle and can be helpful with menstrual problems, pregnancy, and menopause.

Mineralogie & Entstehung

Rainbow moonstone is mineralogically mostly a white labradorite (Ca,Na)(Al,Si)₄O₈ with iridescent sheen, not identical to genuine moonstone (orthoclase/adular). The rainbow colors are created by light refraction at fine lamellae in the crystal (labradorescence). Genuine rainbow moonstones come from India and Sri Lanka. High-quality specimens with blue sheen are particularly sought after.

Pflege & Reinigung

Rainbow moonstone has a Mohs hardness of 6–6.5. Clean under lukewarm water. Avoid direct sunlight (color may fade). Recharge in moonlight – ideally during a full moon. Protect from impacts, as feldspars can be cleavable.

Verwechslungsgefahren & Qualität

Rainbow moonstone is often confused with genuine moonstone (adular). Genuine moonstone shows a milky-blue sheen, while rainbow moonstone displays colorful flashes of light. Labradorite with a light base color is also sold as rainbow moonstone. In the market, the distinction is often blurry – both are valuable feldspars.
